Point Lookout is located in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, New York. The town is surrounded on 3 sides by water, and has restaurants along the bay that are very popular for beachgoers during the summer months. Point Lookout’s first known inhabitants were Merrick (Meroke) Native Americans, a tribe of the Algonquin people. The first European settlers in Point Lookout were Dutch, who arrived in the 1640s, followed by the English, in the 1660s.
